Mt. Fuji Guides

About Our Guides
Our Mt. Fuji guides don’t just clock in for a summer job, they live on the mountain. All season long, they eat, sleep, and breathe Fuji. These are professionals who know the trails not just from maps, but from years of guiding climbers through wind, rain, fog, and the kind of altitude fatigue that makes you question your life choices.
Every one of our guides is bilingual, fluent in both Japanese and English, so you’ll never be left in the dark when it comes to culture, history, or last-minute changes. More than that, they’re committed to one thing: making sure you walk away from Mt. Fuji with an unforgettable experience. Expectations aren’t just met; they’re surpassed.
And here’s the truth: Mt. Fuji can turn on you fast. Clear skies can vanish, trails can close, storms can roll in out of nowhere. That’s why our guides are always plugged into the mountain’s underground network—talking with hut staff, checking conditions with fellow guides, staying connected with our transportation crew. It’s a constant flow of information designed for one purpose: keeping you safe while giving you the best shot at the summit.
We’re not here to sell cookie-cutter tours. Our mission is to deliver the safest, highest-quality Mt. Fuji climbing tours and excursions possible, led by professionals who’ve dedicated their lives to this mountain.

We Are on a Mission
Climbing Mt. Fuji isn’t just about dragging yourself up a volcano for the Instagram shot. It’s about stepping into a world that runs on tradition, grit, and the quiet brotherhood of the mountain. Up here, there’s a whole ecosystem most outsiders never notice: mountain hut owners frying noodles at midnight, staff hauling supplies through thin air, safety center workers pulling long shifts, and guides who know every inch of the trail like it’s stitched into their bones.
This community is small, tight, and fiercely protective of the mountain. They know each other by name, by face, by the way they move on the trail. If you’re serious about reaching the summit of Mt. Fuji—especially if you want to do it safely, without ending up a statistic, your best bet is putting your trust in a local professional guide.
A real guide isn’t just someone who walks ahead with a flag. A professional Mt. Fuji guide is your translator to the mountain’s moods. We’ve felt the volcanic gravel shift under our boots in a storm, we’ve seen the sunrise break over the horizon after a night climb when your body wanted to quit. We’ll share climbing techniques, pacing strategies, and those small pieces of advice that can mean the difference between reaching the crater rim or turning back in defeat.
This isn’t about selling you a tour. It’s about inviting you into a tradition, a way of climbing Mt. Fuji that’s rooted in respect, safety, and the shared experience of people who live and breathe this mountain. Our mission? To give you the best shot at standing on the summit of Japan’s most sacred peak and walking away with a story worth telling.
Climbing Mt. Fuji is more than just a hiking experience. It is a unique cultural experience with its own set of unspoken customs that can be easily missed if not careful. Maintaining wholesome relationships with Mt. Fuji locals is key to being accepted into this close-knit society.

Mt. Fuji Guidebook
Back when we first started guiding, one thing became painfully clear: climbers were starved for information in English. The mountain was there, the trails were there, the culture was there, but the resources weren’t. That’s when Richard, our founder and head guide, decided to put pen to paper. He created a handbook, something practical, something real—that not only explained how to climb Mt. Fuji, but also pulled back the curtain on the rituals, traditions, and culture that have wrapped around this mountain for centuries.
At first, it was just for our clients on Mt. Fuji climbing tours. A cheat sheet. A survival manual. But then word spread. Guests wanted copies to take home, friends asked for it, and before long, we published it as a full guidebook. What started as a passion project in 2013 has since grown into the best-selling Mt. Fuji climbing guidebook on the market.
Now in its 5th edition, Climbing Mt. Fuji: A Complete Guidebook has become the go-to resource for climbers worldwide. It’s not just about trail maps and gear lists, it’s about preparing you for the mountain in every way that counts. The latest edition is fully updated with new rules, regulations, and insider tips; and yes, you can grab it right now on Amazon.
