Tokyo Culture Tour

The day starts out with a drive through one of the most active areas of Tokyo "Shinjuku" the district of entertainment. First stop the Tokyo Metropolitan Government building, Tokyo's landmark Tower for a panoramic view from the observatory on the 45 floor. View Tokyo from 202 meters and on a clear day catch a glimpse of the beautiful Mt. Fuji, you can also browse the many souvenir shops and information centers located in the building. Next it is off to Harajuku for a walk through the nearby Meiji Jinju shrine. Built for the emperor and empress of the Meiji Era.
Emperor Meiji was the first emperor of modern Japan. He ascended to the throne in 1868 at the peak of the Meiji restoration. We continue our cultural tour with a drive by of the Imperial Palace also known as the Edo Castle for a delightful view of the Nijubashi bridges that forms an entrance to the inner palace. The Imperial palace is the residence of the Emperor of Japan and is roughly the size of Central park. Finally, it is off to Asakusa to view the Sensoji Temple which is the oldest temple in Tokyo, built in 628. The Grand Kaminari-mon Gate with a huge "Kannon" lantern is one of the most famous landmarks in Japan. Both sides of the Kaminari-mon Gates to the Hozomon Gates are lined with about 90 stores dating to the Edo period, a terrific place to buy that uniquely Japanese souvenir.
